TAMATAR KA PULAO (OR) TOMATO RICE


One of the simple and easy to cook south Indian dish. (Tomato rice or Pulao)..
So lets start our "cook it yourself dish"..:)

Preparation time: 30 mins
Serves       : 2 

Ingredients Required:

  • 2 cups of Basmati rice
  • 6 Tomatoes (medium size)
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil 
  • 2 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 onion (large)
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida powder(optional)
  • 2 stalks curry leaves
  • 2 tsp salt
Execution Process:
   
Before we start, cook the rice and keep it aside ..

Preparing tomato gravy:
  • Chop tomatoes and onions into small pieces and strips curry leaves from stalk and set them aside
  • Heat the oil in a casserole pot on high flame for 1 min 
  • Add mustard seeds and allow them to splitter.
  • Add cumin seeds and fry for 20-25 seconds.
  • Add peanuts and lower the flame to medium, fry for 3 mins or till the peanuts turns golden brown
  • Add onion and ginger-garlic paste, fry for 2 mins.
  • Add turmeric, red chilli , coriander and asafoetida powder, and curry leaves. stir well for 30 seconds.
  • Add tomatoes and salt,mix well and cover the pan.stir occasionally and cook till tomatoes turn into paste(for about 15 mins).
Final integration:


Add the cooked rice to the tomato gravy. Stir well until rice is uniformly coated.

                           Serve hot with mango or lemon pickle or with papad!



ALSO TRY:

  • Seasoning the rice by adding 1 tsp black gram(urad dal).       OR
  • By adding 2-3 tsp lemon juice to the gravy which will give you a tangy taste
